Terry Wright (Official Behind The Scenes Video) - "Lost My Good Thang"

I posted this song a little while ago but here is a copy of the almost-11 minutes-behind-the-scenes video. (Check out Karen Wolfe.) The actual song is below the behind-the-scenes video. "Lost My Good Thang" is still heavily in rotation on blues radio stations in the south, probably because it is such a good song.  The melody and words seem to stay in your mind and there's no telling when you may break out in song and sing "I done lost my good thang..."

Little Milton - "Little Bluebird"

Little Milton was the man!  And could he play the guitar!! I'm thankful I had a chance to see him before he passed. This is just really a great, great song. The music is phenomenal. He says that the Little Bluebird has been flying around so long and he wishes that she would land in his tree. My favorite line in this song is when he says oh, Little Bluebird, it's true that I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you!!!! Boy, you can't help but believe him when he says that!!

I love this song - enjoy!

Steve Perry - "Live My Life Again"

Here's a southern soul song with a beautiful message that needs to be heard!  I've been hitting repeat and playing this over and over. (It sounds as if the writer of this song is speaking from experience.) Steve tells both old and young people to get off drugs because they will kill you. Drinking, gambling, cocaine, crack, reefer, smoking, running around - it's no good for you. Look at the graveyards he said - they are filled. Now isn't that the truth!  Take a look at these lyrics. Oh, if I could live my life again!!

If your life is messed up
You better make a change
Don’t let nobody fool you
Even you gotta change
Somebody said this to me the other day
Oh I never will forget it
If only I could live my life again
Ah what a change I would make for my own sake
I’ll find me a job, put my money in the bank
And then I’ll stop running around
With every woman in town
I’ll do anything right now
If I could live my life again
If I could start all over again

Listen, I used to be married, oh what a family I had
Tres little girls and two little boys
My wife packed up and left me
She even took my kids
I’ll do anything right now
If I could live my life again
If I could turn back the hands of time

You see, I was talking to a young man
The other day and this is what I heard him say
Drinking, and gambling, cocaine, and crack
I won’t do that no more
Even reefer y’all, I don’t smoke that no more
And then I heard him say this
I’ll start this with all my so called friends
Even all of my scandalous kin folks
I’ll do anything tonight
If I could live my life again
If I could turn back the hands of time
I got one more thing I want to say
To all of you young people in the world
See there’s a whole lot of young people in the world
Who don’t believe in nothing
But young people while you have a chance, remember this
Drinking and gambling
Cocaine and crack
Reefer and smoking
Running around ain’t no good
Listen, give it up
If you’re on drugs, give it up
Give it up
Don’t let nobody fool you
Give it up, say this to yourself - everybody
You’ve got a chance, I got a chance
Everybody got a chance
You’ve got a chance, I got a chance
Everybody got a chance
If you’re on drugs
Give it up
Old people,
Give it up, don’t let nobody fool you
Give it up
Young people, I don’t care who you are
Give it up…

Enjoy!

J-Wonn featuring Big Yayo - "One For The Road"

J-Wonn is an incredible young, new artist whose songs are skyrocketing to the top of the charts.  Radio stations are still playing "I Got This Record" and it was released more than a year ago.  All of his music has been really, really good. The lyrics in his songs are amazingly simple and maybe that's the attraction we have. Or, it could be the melodies.  I don't know.  What I do know is that whatever he's doing is working.  In "One For The Road," J-Wonn talks to the ladies and fellas, steppers and swingers, and single ladies and players.  He tells them to handle their business and get one for the road - whether it's a drink, that last dance, or that elusive phone number. His simplicity is genius.

P.S. J-Wonn doesn't say actually say "go get you one for the road;" it sounds more like 'go on' or 'gone' get you one for the road.  But since I don't know how to capture it accurately, I'll leave it as it is.  Sorry J-Wonn!

Ladies and fellas
It’s bout the time to go
It’s bout the time to go
Now if you haven’t hit the bar
To give yourself a drink
Go get you one for the road
Go get you one for the road

Steppers and swingers
It’s bout the time to go
It’s bout the time to go
Now if you haven’t hit the dance floor
To get your groove on
Go get you one for the road
Go get you one for the road

Single ladies and players
It’s bout the time to go
It’s bout the time to go
Now if you haven’t got her number
Go ahead and get your phones out
And get you one for the road
Go get you one for the road

Marvin Sease - "I'm Coming Home"

You ever hear a guy begging a woman for another chance?  Um hmm, it's usually because he's done wrong and knows it.  In "I'm Coming Home," the Marvelous Marvin Sease tells his girl that he is sorry that he left her for someone else.  He does admit that he thought the grass was greener on the other side and so here he is asking for forgiveness and begging his heart out. If you were in the same situation, would you give your guy another chance?????

I left you baby
For another woman, yes I did
You see I thought the grass was greener
On the other side of the fence
And ooh suddenly oh I realized girl
Oh girl that I was wrong
So wrong baby

So baby, girl if you don’t mind
I’m coming home to you
Yes, I am
Girl, I’m coming back home to you
Please let me back in baby
I can’t take it

I know it’s wrong what I’m asking of you baby
And I do realize girl, oh baby life goes on
And you might have found someone else, girl
But baby if it’s not too late
I’m coming home to you
Yes I am, yes I am
I’m coming back home to you
Please, please baby
I’m coming back home to you

I can’t take it baby
Hey Tony, can I use your telephone, man, please
Thank you
(telephone call - begging his woman, asking for one more chance)

You see baby, I found out something about all my friends
They were jealous of you
And they were jealous of me, baby
They were jealous of you
And they were jealous of me
So baby, girl if you don’t mind
I’m coming home to you
Please let me come back home baby
Let me come back home, please
One more chance girl
Girl I'm coming back home to you
Oh I'm hurting so bad baby
Give me one more chance...

Denise LaSalle - "You Should Have Kept It In The Bedroom"

Denise tells a story that every woman needs to hear.  She lets us know what happens when we brag about all of the good things our man does to us - we need to keep all of that to ourselves!!  I know that's right.

Some of the lines of this song....
I'd rather go through hell, girl, then give you back this man.
All the things you said he was doing is what made me want to try it.
You should have kept it in the bedroom if you didn't want nobody else to get none.
You made it sound so good, I just had to get me some.
Now I'm agreeing with you baby, he's the best damn thing i ever had.

What a great lesson!!

P Love - "Stay Out Of Those Streets"

I'm gonna stay out of those streets, I've got a wife at home who loves me.  Sounds like a man who's convinced himself that he's a changed man.  I guess he's got a good message in this song.

I've been hearing this for quite a while on southern radio -I kind of like it!

Cicero Blake - "Waiting On You"

Cicero says that he's waiting on you, so what you gonna do?  He makes it clear that even though he's been patient, he can't keep on waiting because she promised that they would be together soon. Come on girl, do this man right!

A pretty slow song.

Will Easley - "Your Love Amazes Me" and Concert Review

As soon as my sister and I walked through the door of the Lena Powell Center in Camden, Alabama, we were pleasantly surprised when Will Easley walked out of the dressing room and spent some time talking with us. Do you know how great that was!!! He thanked us for coming to the show and didn't mind taking a picture with us.  I think this is the third time that I have seen him and he has been the same each time!  He’s a gentleman and you get an old school vibe when you talk with him.  Will is a humble man and is truly a nice guy. His goal is to make sure his fans enjoy themselves.

Here is a lineup of the songs he sang that night:
I Got You
Just Because
Wiggle When You Walk
Turn Back the Hands of Time
Your Love Amazes Me
Mustang Sally
Hole in the Wall
Signed, Sealed, & Delivered
A medley of throw-back hits
Never Would Have Made it

As you can see from the above list, he sang a wonderful selection of music.  One thing I liked about Will's show was that he circulated throughout the crowd and sang to all of the women in the place - and he also talked to the guys!  It was very interactive and he made us feel that we were important to his show.  While he sang, he’d hold a lady's hand and even kiss someone on the cheek.  We definitely felt special!!  I think the thing I liked the most (and he does this at every show) is when he stopped and said thank you to his fans.  Will says that a lot of entertainers don’t stop to thank the people who helped them get to where they are – the people who have made them successful.  He wanted to let us know that he appreciates us and he closed with the gospel song, “Never Would Have Made It.”

Will is a class act and I will see him every chance I can.  You should, too!!

FaLisa JaNaye - You Won't Miss Your Water/Can You Stand Up In It - Concert Review

FaLisa JaNaye is a joy to watch in concert!  She’s only about 5 feet tall but has sooo much energy and a beautiful, infectious smile.  She is clearly made for the stage and performs an excellent show.  My sister, Debra, and I went to her concert in Camden, Alabama, and she had everyone on the floor dancing. She has an awesome voice and sang her signature song, “You Don’t Miss Your Water,” along with the popular, “Can You Stand Up In It.”  Here is her lineup for that night:

I’ll Be Good To You
You Don’t  Miss Your Water
She’s A Bad Mamma Jamma
Last Two Dollars
Rocking Chair
That Nooky Thing
Love TKO
Getting Kind of Horny (sounded like an original song - different and very good)
Brick House
Rock The Boat
Can You Stand Up In It

I loved the spin that she put on the remakes; her version of all of the songs was surprisingly good.

FaLisa loved her audience and wanted to make sure that we had a good time. She is a very personable and likable artist and we had a whole lot of fun at her show.
